If you're ready to get back to the basics of yoga, then this workshop is for you! The Ashtanga Yoga system is rooted in a lineage that dates back nearly five thousand years.
Developed by TKV Krishnamacharya and his student Sri Krishna Pattabhi Jois, it it believed to be derived from the ancient indian text, the Yoga Kurunta, written by the great sage, Vamana Rishi.
Among Krishnamacharya’s students we find TKV Desikachar (his son), BKS Iyengar and Indra Devi along side Jois who studied with him from 1927 and into the 1950’s. Jois, or Guruji as he is affectionately called by his students, continued the lineage of these teachings by sharing them with his son, (Manju) and daughter, Saraswathi (Jois) Rangaswamy and her son, Sharath (Jois) Rangaswamy and thousands of practitioners around the world today.
Sonja Ostendorf has spent time in Mysore, India, studying with Saraswathi to learn the Ashtanga System. Sonja is also the student of David Keil, who studied with K. Patthabi Jois (or Guruji) himself and continues to teach Ashtanga in the way he was taught.
The practice of Ashtanga is not easy, but is do-able no matter what level of yoga knowledge the student has. We focus on moving the body with mindful breath and movements, making this system individualized for each student.
This class meets ONE time and will give you enough information to get you started in the traditional Ashtanga yoga system.
